Bluethorne by Frances McHugh - paigenumber - 02-02-2008

Synopsis: Lynn goes to Bluethorne to be governess to a little girl and becomes involved in the family's affairs.

Review: Sounds typical enough of most Gothics but it fails to deliver in any sense of the word. Very poorly written. Reads like a juvenile fairy tale. Dialogues are so trite it was embarrassing to read. Story takes place at turn of the century in upstate New York, and I fear the historical details are inaccurate, although I haven't done an extensive research on it. Forced myself to finish so I could give a fair critique of it. This is one book I'd avoid. Run! Run! Run away! Like the girl in the picture for this website.

This is really an "F", but I'll give it a "D" for effort.
