The House of Ravensbourne by Mary Ann Gibbs - paigenumber - 12-09-2016 Originally published in England as "The Amateur Governess" "A sudden twist of fate left Catherine Wittingham penniless and alone. Â Disregarding the advice of others and her own premonitions, she took the position of governess in the foreboding Ravensbourne mansion. Â But the chilling memory of Mary Ravensbourne lurked in every shadow of the ill-fated house. Â And Catherine found herself the terrified target of unspeakable evil." Well, not quite. Copyright 1964. I would say there were some gothic elements but it was not the heroine who was threatened. Â After the "mystery" was solved, the story focused on the romance side, so it seemed more of a Victorian romance. |
