Elizabeth Gaskell´s Gothic tales - Dallas_Lawson - 06-20-2009 Some days ago I knew of several Gothic tales by Elizabeth Gaskell , published by Penguin. Has anyone read them? I have only read the most famous works by Gaskell, such as Cranford, North and South... and I suppose her style is quite different in these Gothic tales... Greetings! RE: Elizabeth Gaskell´s Gothic tales - paigenumber - 06-22-2009 That's funny, I recently picked up a collection of short stories by Ms. Gaskell, published by Oxford - "Cousin Phillis and Other Tales". I only started reading it - finished the first one "Lizzie Leigh" and it was rather sad. Reminds me somewhat of Thomas Hardy's tragedies. I reserve further judgment until I've read them all. I have copies of North and South and Cranford but have not opened them. I picked them up because she was a friend of Charlotte Bronte. |
