do you know which book this is? - bronte - 01-21-2010

I read a gothic years ago, I think it was written in the 1970's. The word "Stone" or "Stones" was in the title. There was a poem in the book about "the stone". Anyhoo, the people lived in a huge stone mansion and at the very end someone removed a certain stone in the wall that the poem was about and the WHOLE HOUSE COLLAPSED. This certain stone held the whole house together. It was very good but I can't remember title or author.

Two possibilities that come to mind are:

(1) Sinister Stone by Daoma Winston:

(2) The Stone Bull by Phyllis Whitney:

Not sure if either of those fits your description, but worth a try. If I notice any other gothics with the word stone in the title, I'll let you know.

Hi Bronte

There's a book called The Stones of Strendleigh, written by Geraldine Killoran and published by Ace books November 1974. This featured a mansion called Strendleigh which was destroyed when the lion headed key stone to one of the arches was removed - causing the whole building to collapse. I've posted a review of the book, along with a photo of the cover here: Stones of Strendleigh
Hope this helps
