After reading your review of this book, Charybdis, and remembering Penfeather's, I am reminded of a line in Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. The heroine, Elizabeth, says to Darcy, the hero, these words, "I hear such different accounts of you as puzzle me exceedingly."
