Katherine Eyre's "Sandalwood Fan"

Has anyone read The Sandalwood Fan by Katherine Wigmore Eyre? Is it any good? I've heard good reviews of it but it is starting out so painfully slow I'm not sure I want to continue. Will it be worth my reading while?
